Sr. Janice Nadeau

Diocese: Diocese of Rochester (NY)

Religious Order: School Sisters of Notre Dame

Notes:

Allegation to the diocese in 2018 that Nadeau violently sexually assaulted a 12-year-old girl in 1977. Nadeau was principal of St. Margaret Mary School in Irondequoit and the girl was a seventh-grader. Nadeau’s accuser said the nun dragged her by the ear to the principal’s office, slapped her face, knocked her into a wall, straddled her when she fell and yelled “You’re a slut” and “Your’e inviting rape and you’re going to get raped,” then reached under her skirt and penetrated her. The diocese’s victims’ reconciliation program deemed the allegations “completely credible,” and Nadeau’s accuser was offered a settlement. Nadeau retired at some point to her Order’s motherhouse in Wilton, CT, and reportedly in 3/19 had advanced dementia and was living a nursing facility.
