Named publicly as accused by the diocese on its list 2/19. Accused in a 3/19 lawsuit of the sex abuse of a 16-year-old boy in 1962 at a Vineland parish. The boy said he immediately told another priest in the rectory, who drove him – in the middle of the night – to Bishop Damiano’s residence in Camden.The bishop reportedly told the boy in response to his disclosure, “Never speak of this again.” Gerbino was the subject of a 2017 settlement with the daughter of a young man who was allegedly abused in the 1960s by Gerbino. The man killed himself in front of his daughter, then age 7, in 1970. Per reports, removed from ministry in 1985 for “mental health reasons.” Deceased.
